The honest catch
You have to put them up, every time, and take them down after. For a big house that is an afternoon of lifting panels, lining up bolts, and climbing a ladder, and it has to happen while a storm is bearing down, which is exactly when you are busiest and most stressed. People who buy panels and then do not put them up because it is a hassle got no protection at all. Be honest with yourself about whether you will actually do it, or whether the accordion is worth the upgrade.

Panels make the most sense for a smaller home, for protecting just the most vulnerable openings, for a rental or a budget where roll-downs are out of reach, or for someone who does not mind the work. Get a set that is labeled and pre-fit to your openings so you are not measuring in the wind, and store the hardware with the panels.
